Chevrolet and One World Futbol Project to Donate 20,000 Nearly Indestructible One World Futbols to Disadvantaged Children in India
Gurgaon, India—November 18, 2013—Chevrolet today announced the kick-off of its most recent initiative to donate and deliver 20,000 nearly indestructible One World Futbols, in conjunction with One World Futbol Project, to children in India — bringing the power of play to underserved children throughout the country on the special occasion of Children’s Day, November 14.
The unique initiative is aimed at reaching out to the less fortunate children in India, especially those who cannot afford and maintain a football.
“Many of these children are growing up in less privileged circumstances where sometimes a game of football could lighten up their lives by teaching them the true meaning of team spirit and fair play,” said Lowell Paddock, President and Managing Director, GM India.
“The joy that comes from playing football can help lift their spirits and replace despair with hope. Chevrolet’s founding sponsorship of One World Futbol Project is intended to spark a worldwide movement to give children a pathway out of poverty and despair with the benefits that fitness, sport and teamwork can bring – something we call the ‘Power of Play’,” added Paddock.
On Thursday, Chevrolet donated 91 footballs to Sankalp School in Gurgaon, India —a school for underprivileged children run by Gurgaon-based NGO Sankalp Welfare Society. The Chevrolet-branded One World Futbols brought countless smiles to the 905 children who can now enjoy the game of football as much as they want.
With the corporate social responsibility mission of “Driving a Better Tomorrow,” Chevrolet India is working with One World Futbol Project to donate a total of at least 20,000 One World Futbols to disadvantaged children across the country. During the next few weeks, Chevrolet plans to donate additional footballs in the communities where it is located, including Bangalore and Halol.
The remaining Chevrolet-sponsored One World Futbols will be delivered through One World Futbol Project’s partner, Slum Soccer, to a number of non-governmental organizations (NGOs) working with underprivileged youth in India. Slum Soccer is an India-based NGO focused on reaching out to the Indian homeless using football as a tool for social improvement and empowerment.
“It’s our pleasure to work with Chevrolet to support the donation and delivery of One World Futbols — first to Sankalp School and then throughout the rest of India with Slum Soccer,” said Arnold Ambiel, Chief Operating Officer of One World Futbol Project. “The spirit of this joint collaboration will allow us to bring the power of play to more children throughout India than any of us could have done alone. And seeing the joy on the children’s faces on Children’s Day makes all these efforts worthwhile.”
This initiative is part of Chevrolet’s partnership with One World Futbol Project that pledges to donate and support the distribution of 1.5 million One World Futbols in three years to youth living in war-stricken zones, refugee camps, disaster areas, and other underprivileged communities around the world. To date, more than 500,000 Chevrolet-branded One World Futbols have been distributed across five continents, bringing the power of play to over 15 million children.
Chevrolet is the founding sponsor of One World Futbol Project, an award-winning, mission-driven, B-corporation established in 2010. One World Futbol Project’s mission is to bring the healing power of play to youth worldwide by making, selling and distributing nearly indestructible balls that survive the harshest environments. Working with corporate sponsors, partners, individuals, and organizations worldwide, One World Futbol Project distributes One World Futbols to disadvantaged communities, where play can be used to teach life skills and foster social change.
One World Futbols are designed to outlast and outplay hundreds of regular soccer balls, sustaining play in any environment. The One World Futbol is a nearly indestructible ball that never needs a pump and never deflates – even when punctured, making it ideal for play in all types of terrain such as concrete, blacktops, dirt, rocky field or grass, and harsh environments.
Individuals can support One World Futbol Project by purchasing a Chevrolet-branded One World Futbol through the Buy One, Give One program. With each purchase of a Chevrolet-branded gold ball, a donation is triggered of another ball to organizations working in disadvantaged communities around the world.
